I never knew it could run with 4 GB of ram like that. At least my virtual machines can no longer boot since it will make my ram full. Seems like a great trade because i traded all my virtual machines and i received the supported OS.

6:35 I have this PC and tried to upgrade to a Q9650. I have an Nvidia GT 610 add-in board, 2x2Gb 400 MHz and a PCIe WiFi card. Lights 2, 3 and 4 on the front flash, fans spin up, but would not POST. Reason: I had BIOS version A09 from 2010 so I updated it to A18 from 2013 and the CPU upgrade was successful!😀

I'm here to try and find out how Windows 10 or 11 scales, and how it works with Macbook screens. Here's some background to my enquiry: in the old days, if you deviated away from your screen's native resolution on any Windows machine, the resulting text was slightly blurry. And although many people could accept that, I definitely can't. The problem is that I want a new laptop and I've been used to using a relatively low-res 1366x768 screen for years, but they're quite rare now and I really don't want to go higher i.e. up to 1920 (aka Full HD) or 2560 (aka QHD/ 1440p). As this is a work and browsing machine only, the resulting text would be too small for me, and even though I understand that scaling has improved in the Windows operating system in recent years, deviating so far from the technical native resolution is probably going to bug me... unless it's an exact 2:1 scale. By that, I'm referring to the way that Apple laptops have, say, a 2880 screen, but display the desktop at half that resolution, meaning everything is much bigger than it would be on a 2880 res Windows machine, presumably by using two pixels to one (i.e. retina display). So, I want to know if the latest Windows o/s can scale down to exactly match the current 2880 or 3072 res (or older 2013) Apple laptop screens, and if so, is it pin sharp and have the icon-scaling issues from a few years back been solved now? Alternatively (and it has been impossible to find anything at all about this), will the latest WQXGA 2880x1800 laptop screens such as those fitted to Samsung's Windows laptops scale in the same way/ perfectly if I just forget MacBooks altogether?

Does not work on sonoma opencore legacy patcher. The windows 11 partition has to be formatted NTFS Otherwise it will not install. Next I’ll try tuxera to see if i can get it formatted. Homebrew ntfs-3g no longer works on Sonoma

The screens were the main reason I did not buy any Lenovo until now, but for the rest very good machines! Good to hear also the screens are improving.

H.265 is the real problem with these older Macs, they don't handle this API well, if you install an extension to go back to using H.264 you will see that the problem is not the system but rather the lack of hardware support.

For movies on that iMac, you better use mpv, whic is much, much faster than vlc. No problem with h.264 @1080p. You can also istall 2 modules of 2 GB of ram. The chipset will read just abput 3 GB, but better than nothing, Then activate zswap.

I would still prefer the i5 - the i7 may be a bit faster but also it's getting hotter and needs more power from your batteries.

You should really replace the keyboard with a backlit one - that's a massive difference and in my opinion it's one of the best keyboards on the market - even better than apples.

I just bought a 2015 macbook air fro youtube and light browsing and I was shocked at how capable it is. Running Monterey, dual core i5 with only 4gb ram and in like new condition. I can see that battery health isnt winning any prizes but ill replace that soon. (First time macbook user here too)

I have had 4 different places that deal with computer repair here in my city and they all said that the computer can not be upgraded beyond High Sierra. I have the early 2011 Macbook Pro 81 with 10.13.6 I went from 8 gb to 16gb with it. So now I will go back to the one repair place and tell them about this video. I will downgrade the hdd from a 500 gb to a 256 gb solid state drive. Then I can keep the original drive as a spare in case the downloaded OS doesn't want to work for 1 reason or another.

I realize this is over a year after the fact, and that you're long past worrying about this project. But I still want to point out that cheap no-name-brand SSDs are not necessarily a good indicator of what a PM G5 will successfully boot from.
